Audacy’s “I’m Listening” Returns. Audacy’s mental health initiative, “I’m Listening,” is again presenting its annual broadcast special in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10 and National Suicide Prevention Month. All Audacy stations nationwide will air the “I’m Listening” broadcast that week. Radio personality and co-host of NBC’s “TODAY” and host of “The Voice,” Carson Daly, and Audacy’s nationally syndicated country host, Katie Neal, host of “Katie and Company,” will host the special.

New Affiliate for RMWorldTravel. The nationally syndicated travel program “RMWorldTravel with Robert & Mary Carey and Rudy Maxa” adds East Carolina Radio Inc’s WZPR-FM, Nags Head, North Carolina to its roster of affiliates. The show is now heard on 610 stations every week.

“1300 The Zone” Adds Longhorns Show. iHeartMedia’s KVET-AM, Austin “1300 The Zone” announces a new partnership with the “3rd & Longhorn” football show to deliver expanded coverage of the Texas Longhorns’ 2025 college football season, including the launch of a brand-new postgame show. The “3rd & Longhorn Postgame Show” will air live on “1300 The Zone” immediately following every Texas Longhorns football game.

VSiN Unveils New Program Schedule.VSiN, The Sports Betting Network announces its new programming lineup to coincide with the 2025 NFL season that includes, among numerous changes, including an additional hour for “A Numbers Game” with Gill Alexander and producer Kelley Bydlon expanding to 10:00 am to 1:00 pm ET and the addition of a Sunday show for “Follow the Money” hosted by Mitch Moss and Pauly Howard.

MIW/NAB’s “LAUNCH” Mentorship Program Underway

Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio and the National Association of Broadcasters Leadership Foundation announce the opening of the submission window for the 2025 LAUNCH Mentorship Program. The organizations say, “LAUNCH is a groundbreaking initiative developed to champion and cultivate emerging female talent in radio, with a specific focus on careers in engineering, audio production, andimg technical operations. This one-of-a-kind, year-long mentorship pairs a rising professional with a seasoned industry leader to provide one-on-one coaching and deep exposure to the technical side of the broadcast industry.” The selected mentee will gain hands-on insight into critical areas including FCC compliance, RF systems, EAS, IP-based broadcast systems, automation, and network operations. The program also explores key aspects of IT, remote broadcasting, digital audio, streaming, and systems integration, equipping participants with both the knowledge and connections to lead confidently in the evolving audio landscape. In addition, the chosen mentee will attend the 2026 NAB Show in Las Vegas. MIW Board President Sheila Kirby says, “The LAUNCH program is a cornerstone of MIW’s mission to open doors for women in every corner of broadcasting. KNSS, Wichita’s “Steve and Ted” to Celebrate 7,000 Shows

The award-winning morning drive show on Audacy’s news/talk KNSS-AM/FM, Wichita is celebrating its 7,000th broadcast next Tuesday (8/26). “Steve and Ted” show hosts Steve McIntosh (left) and Ted Woodward (right) have been on air together since 1998 and during that run have won the Edward R. Murrow Award, an NAB Marconi Award, and are in the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. McIntosh, who is retiring at the end of the year, says, “It’s been a professional and personal pleasure to work with Ted for nearly 28 years. Thank you to all our loyal listeners and advertisers.” Woodward adds, “The road to our 7,000th show has been a long journey for me, nearly half my lifetime. What a cherished gift, as listeners have invited us into their homes, cars, phones, computers, devices, and AI microchip implants (maybe?) for 27-plus years. It’s been our honor, and we’re truly blessed!”

KABC, Los Angeles New Flagship for UCLA Sports

Cumulus Media’s Los Angeles news /talk “Talk Radio 790 KABC” signs a multi-year agreement with the UCLA Bruins to be the new official radio broadcast home of Bruins football and men’s basketball. KABC will serve as the flagship station of the UCLA Bruins Audio Network. In addition, KABC will air four UCLAimg women’s basketball games this season and a total of 28 episodes of the “Bruin Insider Show” on Thursdays at 7:00 pm. KABC program director Luis Segura comments, “With KABC’s powerhouse signal and UCLA’s legacy teams, Southern Californians will get some of the best in sports programming starting Fall 2025! Good Karma Brands’ WMVP-AM “ESPN Chicago” revamps its program schedule as it adds the nationally syndicated Rich Eisen Show to the midday daypart. Mike McVay to Receive National Radio Award

National Association of Broadcasters announce that Mike McVay will be honored with the 2025 NAB National Radio Award. NAB president and CEO Curtis LeGeyt says, “NAB is thrilled to recognize Mike forimg his remarkable contributions to the radio industry over the past four decades. Mike’s deep expertise, creative vision and unwavering commitment to excellence have shaped countless careers, inspired new generations of broadcasters and driven innovation in every corner of the audio industry. Christian Broadcaster James Dobson Dies at 89

Psychologist, Christian leader and broadcaster Dr. James Dobson – founder of the Focus on the Familyimg ministry – has died at age 89. Dobson launched a radio program titled, “Focus on the Family” and, after leaving Focus on the Family to his successor Jim Daly in 2010, Dobson founded Family Talk and a new radio program. He later founded the James Dobson Family Institute and the Alliance Defending Freedom, a Christian legal defense firm.

Salem Media Group says its news/talk KTZK, Sacramento “1380 The Answer” help bring the crowd pictured above to the California State Capitol Building to support the protest against AB 495 organized by Calvary Chapel Chino Hills pastor Jack Hibbs yesterday (8/19). Salem Radio Network VP/news & talk programming Tom Tradup says the rally was “the latest example of how talk radio’s one-on-one relationship with listeners can help promote citizen action when lawmakers endanger the rights of parents and children in California or anywhere else across America.” The bill was subsequently returned to committee pending further study.

WEEI/NESN Radio-Telethon Raises $5.7 Million for Cancer. Audacy’s sports talk WEEI, Boston announces that the 2025 WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon raised more than $5.7 million for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a new record in the 23-year history of the event. Audacy adds, “With the generous support of the Jimmy Fund community and Red Sox Nation, the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon has now raised more than $78 million to strike out cancer since the first broadcast in 2002.”

Salem Names New Board Chair. Salem Media Group appoints Richard A. von Gnechten as chairman of the board, with responsibilities of overseeing Board and Annual Stockholders meetings. Edward G. Atsinger, III retains the title of executive chairman with responsibilities of overseeing operations of the company and will remain in his role through December 31, 2025.

Saga Announces Dividend. Saga Communications declares a quarterly dividend to stockholders of record on Tuesday, August 26 who will be paid a dividend of 0.25 per share.  Saga says this represents a dividend on an annualized basis and a dividend yield of 7.7%.

Nielsen: Podcasts Make Up 19% of Ad-Supported Audio Listening

Nielsen releases its latest Podcasting Today report that reveals a number of things including that podcasts represent about one-fifth (19%) of daily ad-supported audio listening time – second only to radio in theimg U.S. Other takeaways include: Listeners aged 18-34 spend 32% of their daily ad-supported audio time with podcasts; and podcasts consistently drive top funnel advertising impact. Nielsen says its Podcast Brand Impact Database draws on nearly 2,000 case studies and shows that podcast ads continue to drive strong brand awareness, motivate listeners to learn more, and purchase products. Report: Stern and SiriusXM Agreeing to Extension

According to a report from Yahoo Entertainment, Howard Stern appears to have struck a new deal to remain with SiriusXM. This comes a couple of weeks after reports indicated that Stern and the satcasterimg would go their separate ways when his current contract ends later this year. The Yahoo story says, “A source affirmed that everything is a done deal in this regard, and all previous reports of him exiting the company were pure fallacy, per RadarOnline. The man of the hour himself also dropped a big hint on his social media, teasing an answer to all the questions hovering around his career very soon.” Stern’s own Instagram account posted the following: “Now we can reveal that all the questions will be answered. All the truths will be told by the one man truly on the inside: Howard Stern will speak. Tuesday, September 2.” Read the Yahoo story here.
