Brother Wease Out as iHeartMedia Flips WAIO-FM, Rochester to Rock

imgAfter 40 years on the air in the Rochester market, legendary radio personality Brother Wease is exiting iHeartMedia’s talk WAIO-FM where he’s been hosting the late morning show for the past two years (he’d been hosting the morning drive show there since November of 2008). According to the Democrat & Chronicle, Brother Wease told his audience that the company is flipping the talk station to rock and he, along with air personality Deanna King, are being let go. Brother Wease launched his on-air career on rock WCMF in 1984 in overnights and moved to morning drive in 1985. The show took off and became a highly successful one in the market for years. He left WCMF in late 2007 after contract talks with then-Entercom broke down and resurfaced on WAIO. Read the Democrat & Chronicle story here.

iHeartMedia Reports New Contracts for Pittman and Bressler

iHeartMedia announces that it is entering into amendments to the employment agreements with chairman and CEO Robert W. Pittman and president COO Richard J. Bressler. These amendments extend theirimg contracts from the end of 2026 to December 31, 2029. The company says that the amendments provide that outstanding equity awards granted at least six months prior to a qualifying retirement termination will remain outstanding and eligible to vest in accordance with the original vesting schedule (and, for performance-based awards, based on actual performance). Additionally, Bressler’s amendment increased his cash severance multiplier from 1.5x to 2x to align his severance payments and benefits (upon a qualifying termination of employment) with Pittman’s existing severance payments and benefits.

The Portland Trail Blazers and iHeartMedia Portland announce a multi-year agreement to their partnership as the official broadcast carrier for Trail Blazers games across the Trail Blazers Audio Network. As part of theimg deal, KPOJ-AM “Rip City Radio 620 AM” continues as the flagship station. Travis Demers enters his seventh full season as the team’s radio play-by-play announcer with Michael Holton as color commentator and Rip City Radio’s Chad Doing hosting both pre- and post-game shows.

Michael DelGiorno Show Hits 100-Affiliate Mark

Premiere Networks is celebrating the 100-affiliate mark for “Your Morning Show with Michael DelGiorno.” This comes as iHeartMedia’s WKIP, Poughkeepsie “NewsRadio 1450/1370 WKIP” adds the show to theimg 6:00 am to 9:00 am slot. DelGiorno comments, “I love every listener and city equally, but I’d place Poughkeepsie in the memorable class alongside Nashville (my first affiliate), Detroit (my 50th), and now Poughkeepsie (100th). I’ll always remember this moment! I’m thrilled to be on the Hudson River, serving this great audience, and I look forward to seeing where the river leads me in the months and years ahead.”

Adkins to Retire; Executive Changes at iHeartMedia

On the heels of this week’s news that longtime iHeartMedia executive Hartley Adkins is preparing to retire from his daily position with the company is news that Ann Marie Licata will assume the president, marketsimg group and sales operations, effective September 1. Licata has been serving as EVP of sales operations and client success. Other changes include Bernie Weiss rising from division president for the Northeast and Chicago markets to COO of the markets group and Paul Corvino, division president of the Southern California division, adding expanded duties focused on national new business development. Adkins will remain with iHeart in a strategic advisor role.

Radio personality Josh Innes, who has worked in the sports talk format in Philadelphia and Houston, is the new morning drive host at iHeartMedia’s rock WLLZ, Detroit. iHeartMedia Q2 Financial Report Announced. iHeartMedia, Inc will issue financial results for the quarter ending June 30, 2025 on Monday, August 11. The company will conduct a conference call at 4:30 pm ET, following the release of its earnings announcement, to discuss its financial results and business outlook.

Urban One to Present Q2 Operating Results. Urban One announces it will reveal the operating results from the second quarter of 2025 on Tuesday, August 19 and will hold a conference call for investors, analysts, and other interested parties at 10:00 am ET that morning.

Starks Rises in Steelers Game Day Audio Coverage

iHeartMedia Pittsburgh promotes former lineman and two-time Super Bowl champion Max Starks to colorimg commentator for game day broadcasts. Starks has been a member of the Steelers Audio Network broadcast team since 2021, and transitions from his previous role as sideline analyst to join play-by-play host Rob King in the booth. Missi Matthews continues to deliver game day reporting from the sidelines. In addition, King and Starks will co-host, “In The Locker Room, Presented by Neighborhood Ford Store” that airs in-season from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Steelers Nation Radio and on WBGG-AM “FOX Sports Pittsburgh.”

Covino & Rich Broadcasting from All-Star Game. FOX Sports Radio’s “Covino & Rich” are broadcasting from the MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta this week. While “The Dan Patrick Show” is on vacation, a special edition of “Covino & Rich” will broadcast in the show’s 9:00 am to 12:00 noon ET timeslot. Post-game coverage will continue Wednesday, July 16 with a broadcast from iHeartMedia Atlanta’s studios.

iHeartMedia Memphis Presenting Chicken & Beer Festival.  iHeartMedia Memphis, including news/talk WREC, is presenting the seventh annual Memphis Chicken & Beer Festival on Saturday, August 16 on the field of the Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis. A portion of the ticket proceeds will benefit local charity Merge Memphis.

Townsquare to Reveal Q2 Financial Results. Townsquare Media will release second quarter 2025 financial results before the market opens on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The company will host a conference call to discuss certain second quarter 2025 financial results that day at 8:00 am ET.

KXNO, Des Moines Unveils New Lineup

iHeartMedia’s sports talk KXNO, Des Moines is debuting its new program lineup after the departure of a number of local hosts over the past six months or so. Last year, the “Murph and Andy Show” starring Keith Murphy and Andy Fales exited for a podcast initiative. Also exiting were Ross Peterson in late 2024 andimg morning drive personality Travis Justice in January of this year. New in morning drive are Heather Burnside (who moves from the PM drive show) and Alec Busse hosting “The 1st Quarter.” Ken Miller and Trent Condon continue in the 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm slot, and program director and personality Sean Roberts partners with Lucas Strain for the afternoon drive “Off the Bench” show. Overtime Iowa – a “best of the day” program – airs from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

MacLeod to Lead Portland Stations for Alpha Media

Alpha Media Portland names Ross MacLeod the new operations manager for the Portland market. In this role he’ll also serve as content director for news/talk KXL-FM “FM News 101” and sports talk KXTG-AMimg “750 The Game.” He most recently served as program director for iHeartMedia’s WBGG, Miami “Big 105.9.” MacLeod states, “I’m looking forward to working with some of the amazing talent we have in Portland, and leading this cluster to new heights. KXL is a heritage news/talk leader in Portland and I couldn’t be more honored to be part of this team.” Alpha Media stations are being acquired by Connoisseur Media in a deal that is expected to close in the fall.

Audacy Content Now Available on iHeartRadio Platform

iHeartMedia and Audacy agree to a content distribution partnership that will have Audacy’s portfolio of more than 240 radio brands and time-shifted podcasts be available on iHeartRadio. iHeartMedia says that through the iHeartRadio app, Audacy content will be available on more than 500 additional platforms and over 2,000 additional devices, including smart speakers, digital auto dashes, tablets, wearables, smartphones, virtualimg assistants, televisions and gaming consoles. iHeartMedia president of business development and strategic partnerships Michael Biondo says, “This is an exciting day for our industry as the addition of Audacy’s stations to iHeartRadio maximizes imgradio’s presence across the country as the most listened to and trusted medium for audiences and consumers. Jeff Tyler Retires from iHeartMedia

After a radio career spanning 47 years, Jeff Tyler announces he’s retiring from iHeartMedia. Tyler began his career as an on-air talent in 1978, with early roles in both Madison and Milwaukee. In 1997, he played a pivotal role in forming one of the first merged markets when Capstar Broadcasting acquired six stations from two different companies – a move that laid the foundation for today’s iHeartMedia cluster in Madison. Overimg the next three decades, Tyler held numerous leadership positions, including market manager roles in both Madison and Milwaukee.  In 2010, Tyler was promoted to region president and later moved to Minneapolis in 2015 to serve as regional president for iHeartMedia. He rose to division president in July 2018 before returning to Wisconsin in 2022 to lead as metro president and most recently area president. Tyler says, “Broadcast radio has been my life. I’ve worked in every aspect of this business and have been fortunate to work for tremendous leaders who helped shape my career, including the creative and innovative team at iHeartMedia. I’m grateful to have worked with so many talented, dedicated professionals in vibrant broadcast markets, serving advertisers and creating meaningful partnerships. iHeartMedia’s AI Efforts to Translate Podcasts

Yesterday’s news that iHeartMedia is offering 10 of its top podcasts in six different languages besides their native English did not go into detail about how these podcasts are being translates. A story in Digiday looksimg at how iHeartMedia handled the process of using AI to translate and voice-clone the original podcast hosts. iHeartPodcasts president Will Pearson is quoted saying the AI translations faced two main challenges: ensuring accuracy and preserving each show’s unique tone. iHeartMedia worked with the company Speechlab to clone the voices of the hosts use them to read the show’s transcript in multiple languages. Pearson also says about a quarter of his company’s downloads come from outside the U.S. Read the Digiday story here.

iHeartMedia announces that 10 of its top podcasts – “On Purpose with Jay Shetty,” “Revisionist History with Malcolm Gladwell,” “Stuff You Missed in History Class,” Stuff They Don’t Want You to Know,” “Before Breakfast with Laura Vanderkam,” “How to Money,” “Stuff to Blow Your Mind,” “Betrayal,” “The Girlfriends” and “Murder 101” – are now available in six foreign languages: Spanish, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Hindiimg and Mandarin, with plans to expand to even more shows and languages in the future. Host Jay Shetty says, “We have been fortunate to build a huge global audience that continues to reach more people around the world every day. Eva Longoria Expands Partnership with iHeartMedia

Actress and producer Eva Longoria’s company Hyphenate Media Group acquires an equity share in iHeartMedia’s My Cultura podcast network dedicated to elevating Latino voices and stories. This is part of an expansion of the network’s collaboration with Longoria and her partner Cris Abrego, who serves as theimg group’s CEO. As part of the new deal, Hyphenate and Longoria will executive produce a slate of new original podcasts with iHeartMedia’s My Cultura. She says, “Storytelling shapes how we see ourselves and how the world sees us, and podcasting is one of the most intimate, accessible and powerful ways to connect with audiences and share meaningful, authentic conversations. Change of Corporate Officers at iHeartMedia. In an 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, iHeartMedia states that it has transitioned Scott Hamilton from his role as the its principal accounting officer to a consulting arrangement. Michael B. McGuinness, the company’s executive vice president, deputy chief financial officer, is designated as the company’s principal accounting officer. iHeartMedia states, “Mr. Hamilton’s change in status is not the result of any dispute or disagreement with the company, including with respect to any matters relating to the company’s accounting practices or financial reporting.”

SiriusXM Announces U.S. Open Coverage. SiriusXM is the exclusive national audio broadcaster for the 125th U.S. Open Championship, and will offer live shot-by-shot coverage across all four days of Championship play – June 12-15 – from Oakmont Country Club, outside Pittsburgh. The broadcast team will feature Taylor Zarzour and Brian Katrek as the play-by-play voices, alongside analysts Steve Melnyk and Brendon de Jonge. Three-time U.S. Open Champion Hale Irwin will join the SiriusXM team on air to provide analysis during the Saturday and Sunday rounds.

WHO-AM, Des Moines Unveils Saturday Agriculture Show

iHeartMedia’s news/talk WHO-AM, Des Moines “NewsRadio 1040 WHO” is launching a new agriculture program titled, “We Speak Farm Saturday,” airing from 5:00 am to 7:00 am. The station says that longtime WHO-AM farm director Bob Quinn, along with co-farm director Duane Murley, producer of ‘The Big Show’img Nathan Fischer, and fellow farm department contributors are teaming up to produce the debut show this Saturday (6/7). WHO adds, “‘We Speak Farm Saturday’ builds upon all that’s delivered throughout the week during ‘The Big Show’ with a Market Recap, a weekly ‘Agriculture USA’ segment from the USDA, insightful conversations on Iowa farming, agronomy and food, and will also cover topics such as gardening, farmers markets, rodeos and county fairs.” WHO program director Cole Blair comments, “We are always looking to deliver more for the hard-working farmers and all those involved in Iowa’s agriculture industry at WHO, so we’re proud to expand our Ag programming with the launch of ‘We Speak Farm Saturday.’ When farmers and Ag industry workers get in the truck, tractor or workplace on Saturday it’s only right we’re there with them, too.”

iHeartMedia and BIG3 Basketball Ink Audio Deal

iHeartMedia and BIG3 – the professional three-on-three basketball league – announce a deal that makes iHeartMedia the audio home of BIG3 games. The league’s eighth season tips off on June 14 at Allstate Arena in Chicago with play-by-play on CBS and iHeartRadio. In addition to BIG3 games streamed live onimg iHeartRadio, the deal includes a cross-marketing collaboration of both brands throughout the BIG3 season with promotion nationally across iHeartMedia’s multiple platforms including broadcast radio, podcast digital, social and live events, with a heavy focus in “game” markets including Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Dallas and others. iHeart Digital Audio Group CEO Conal Byrne says, “We are very excited about our new partnership with BIG3 and having the opportunity to provide play-by-play coverage and promotional support to build further brand awareness, introducing the game to millions of more fans. iHeartMedia Launches “True Crime Tonight.” iHeartMedia announces the premiere of “True Crime Tonight” in collaboration with KT Studios. “True Crime Tonight” will initially launch on more than 20 broadcast radio stations across the country Sunday through Thursday evenings live at 10:00 pm local time beginning June 1. The two-hour show is being led by Stephanie Lydecker, founder and CEO of KT Studios; Courtney McKenna Armstrong, producer and voice of KT Studios’ podcasts; and Baudi Moovan, crime analyst and star of Netflix’s “Don’t F*** with Cats.”

Edison Unveils Infinite Dial UK. At The Podcast Show in London, Edison Research released its finding about UK digital media consumption via it’s the Infinite Dial UK 2025. The study looked at tech ownership, social media usage, online audio, and podcast listening in the UK.

Podcast One Acquires New Shows. PodcastOne announces it broadens its programming slate by adding several new and acquired podcasts to its network. Acquisitions include “Love Murder,” “The Broadside” and “Intrusive Thoughts” by Adam Rippon, with new podcasts “Yestergays” with Justin Sylvester and Blakely Thornton and “A Lot of You Have Been Asking” from comedian Hayden Cohen.

Bengals and iHeartMedia Cincinnati Extend Deal

The NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals and iHeartMedia Cincinnati are extending their broadcast deal to run through the 2028 season. iHM says the broadcasts will continue to be heard on “one of the most powerful ‘triple-casts’ in the NFL, with a flagship station lineup of 700 WLW, 102.7 WEBN and ESPN 1530.” WEBN serves as the broadcast flagship stations for all Bengals games and WLW will carry all games for which there is no conflict with Cincinnati Reds baseball broadcasts.

BFoA to Host Media Mixer in NYC

The Broadcasters Foundation of America announces that due to popular demand, it is presenting its next Media Mixer at the New York City studios of iHeartMedia on June 18 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. BFoA says the popular event brings together up-and-coming broadcast professionals with their peersimg and executives and increases awareness of the Broadcasters Foundation charitable mission. This event will be co-hosted by Angela Yee, BFOA Ambassador and nationally syndicated host of “Way Up with Angela Yee.” Also hosting will be Pedro Rivera, reporter and anchor for ABC7’s Eyewitness News. Closing out the night will be Long Island singer-songwriter Camryn Quinlan.
